Last night's Indy Spirits event introduced me to some distinctive products. Although it was a challenge to taste everything, here are the top three.
1.
SCORPION MEZCAL Reserva AƱejo 5 Year Old-Beautiful golden amber color. Intense aromas of roasted pineapple, raw honey, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon bark, fresh herbs, and smoldering embers. A rich, lush entry leads to a massive, off-dry full-bodied palate of roasted agave, grilled pineapple, wildflower honey, oiled leather, charred oak, exotic peppercorns, and brown spices. Finishes with a long, sweet fade of toffee, peppery spice, and smoky oak. Amazingly complex, balanced, and utterly delicious.
2.
Pierre Ferrand Reserve des Dieux-
It has a beautiful brown color accented by brilliant glints of mahogany. Its bouquet of dried flowers and cedar wood also gives off aromas of liquorice, spices, and black tea. The palate is round with notes of leather and wood. Vanilla and tobacco develop pleasantly to create a cognac with an affirmed character.
3.
Cadre Noir-Over the years hundreds have attempted to mimic Combier’s authentic taste using synthetic flavoring, shortcuts in the production process, alterations in alcohol content – all to no avail. Combier’s all-natural recipe is distinctly unique and must be created slowly and skillfully. It’s no wonder then it has become the highest quality orange liqueur from which all other orange liqueurs are based.
